Skull & Bones is finally available in February 2024, despite years of delays and major changes to the game’s basic focus.
From what we’ve seen thus far, Skull & Bones appears to be relatively conventional open-world Ubisoft stuff. You advance from being an unknown pirate to becoming a legendary pirate. There are objectives to complete, places to explore, and lots of ship customisation options. What is evident is that the game’s scope and vision have shifted dramatically since its initial presentation.
What is Skull and Bones?
Skull & Bones is mostly an action RPG game. You begin life as a shipwrecked pirate. You must seek out materials to construct a small, almost defenseless sailing vessel, and from these humble beginnings, you will rise to become a pirate ruler.

When is its release date, and on which platforms?
Skull & Bones, initially announced for 2018 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, was delayed and later launched for these PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S consoles as well. Skull & Bones becomes Ubisoft’s first game to sell for less than $70 or on new-generation platforms. Gamers can play the game on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. February 16, 2024, is the release date of Skull and Bones.
Gameplay
When Skull and Bones was initially announced, it was more similar to Rainbow Six Siege than it is now. The game was a small team PvP game in which each player took on the role of a ship, outfitting it with specialist weapons and armor, and then the two teams would blow each other to splinters with their cannons and muskets.
Using your ship, you will travel an open globe looking for timber, precious metals, and any other materials you may require to manufacture equipment. You’ll encounter AI foes, including other ships, and wild creatures like hippos and sharks. And you’ll harvest extra resources and treasure from them, which you may then barter for money at pirate dens and other outposts or use in your crafts.
Contract work is the most effective approach to gaining money, equipment, and designs. These jobs require you to chase down bounties, invade communities, or search for long-lost wealth. Your ‘infamy’ determines which contracts you have access to, and executing contracts will help you boost your infamy level.
Explore Skull & Bones’ seven seas and discover blueprints for crafting new ships, weaponry, and armor. Utilize materials from shipwrecks, natural resources, or water hunting to become a formidable pirate, dedicating time to building strong hulls and equipment.
Is Skulls & Bones a single-player or multiplayer game?
Skull & Bones began as a PvP game but has since grown into a solitary survival game. However, multiplayer is still available in a modified version. Players may ask friends or rivals to join them on contract missions, share winnings, and take on new enemies. The game may also be made into a PvP arena, with players targeted as they exit a pirate hideout. PvP and co-op still play a role in Skull & Bones, but in a diminished capacity. It is not a narrative-driven game.
Types of Ships in Skull & Bones
Skull & Bones will offer a variety of ship types, each with its own set of strengths and limitations. Ubisoft Forward identified three types: cargo ships, navigation ships, and firepower ships.
- Cargo ships are larger and slower, with enormous holds for treasure.
- Navigation ships are quicker and more maneuverable, which makes them ideal for scouting and keeping ahead of attackers.
- Firepower Ships can carry the most cannons, are quicker, and more flexible, which allows them to dominate the battlefield. There may be more ship kinds in Skull and Bones, but each one provides new options for players.
